Basically I think this is a good way to evaluate TM games. On the other hand there was a Roman Empire era city building game whose name escapes me that turned me off with it's charmless grind. :) On the other hand I've enjoyed some TM games that had enough strategy to hold the interest, and a clock that wasn't an impossible task master - like a couple of games given away here years ago such as the flawed (but I found addictive) 2 versions of Be A King or some of the Jane's Hotel series or Gourmania. And you can even get some pay for that, although it's usually often unfair and inadequate token pay. However, for me, too many time management games are grinding rat races. I'm a big match 3 fan, so I like the escape of that kind of repititive concentration game. In general, I'm of 2 minds on time management games, as I've said here before. If I have time I'll play a little and post again, but a lot on the plate today. Will be interesting to see where people think this one fits into that spectrum. ![]() The consensus on this game is that the charm and fun of this game's design trumps all and that's it's appeal - that the charm of the world makes it worth trying. This game isn't about challenge or game play, and, although there were interesting points against and for raised about strategy, replayability, and mechanics, these really weren't big issues for most. The ratings and the few reviews I read were largely postive and the consensus of the latter matched what a couple of folks here said. So it seems clears that this is Tribez daddy with practically twin like DNA and it might be a great opportunity to get this progenitor of a popular game for handhelds on your PC. The reviewer from Fun Games Reviews claims the members of the Divo development team that developed Jack went on to create Tribez later in their careers. Seems clear that Jack was developed originally for PC and released in 2010 by Divo games. 1st, let me confirm and clarify what nibo said. It’s a simple mechanic that takes only a bit of time to get the basic hang of, but then only a Tribes master can take full advantage of it.I did a little more light research for this one because I was undecided about downloading, so thought I'd share the little insight I found because I might not have time to try the download and post about it before the give away is over. The hills on the maps are spaced specifically so that you can then land in the next downward slope and continue skiing, building up even more speed. When you reach the next hilltop, you right-click to turn on your jetpack, sending you careening into the air at great velocity. You’ll go faster and faster, easily building enough momentum to slide right up the upward slope of the next hill. Now that it’s a feature built into the series, it works like this: when you’re on a downward slope you hold down the spacebar to start skiing. ![]() As we mentioned, when skiing was a glitch it allowed players to go faster than they were supposed to and created cumulative momentum. ![]() With skiing, however, it becomes an endlessly fun and useful mode of transport. This means you can do one big jump before you fall back to earth. Instead of corridors or alleyways, the Tribes maps are mostly a series of rolling hills.Įverybody in Tribes has a jetpack with limited fuel. For those who don’t know what the heck Tribes even is, imagine a sci-fi shooter that looks a bit Halo-ish (but its aesthetic precedes Halo), but what sets it apart from most other shooters, other than the skiing and jumping, is the wide-open outdoor environments. The main difference is that it will be a free-to-play game where you can buy loadouts if you wish. So much so, that I didn’t see anything new that stood out, so really it feels like Tribes 2 HD, which will probably make Tribes veterans happy. I played Tribes: Ascend recently at QuakeCon and for those wondering if the old Tribes has come back, I can say that yes, it definitely has.
